About

The difference between wellness and illness is a matter of “we” versus “I.”

At The Massage Space we believe that just as we are multifaceted beings, wellness requires a multifaceted approach, one in which massage plays a vital role. True health is achieved when one is of sound mind, body, and spirit. We believe that mindfully applied massage is capable of addressing all three aspects, however the greatest results are seen when applied in combination with multiple wellness therapies.  

Who is The Massage Space?

 
Christine Calkwood

Christine Calkwood began her massage career after decades of teaching creative movement to preschoolers, leading fitness classes for people of all ages, and, most importantly to her, raising two sons.

A graduate of Tulane University in her native New Orleans, Christine went on to earn a certificate in therapeutic massage at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN, with advanced studies in massage for the medically complex, sports massage, and trauma-informed practice.  Her special interests include clients with chronic illness, anxiety & depression, and/or trauma backgrounds. Christine is also certified in massage for the childbearing year. Her goal with her work is to meet people where they are and help them live their lives to the fullest.

Outside of her massage career, Christine also enjoys fitness classes, spending time with family and friends, lakes, mountains, museums, and exploring.  

 

 

Kristen Wertenberger

 

Kristen is an NCBTMB licensed massage therapist.  She attended the Soma Institute for clinical massage therapy in Chicago, Illinois and has worked in a variety of settings.  She began in rehab clinics, chiropractic offices, sporting events, and wellness centers.  

In November 2016, Kristen opened The Massage Space.  With a focus on postural restoration and pain relief, her goal with each treatment is to provide a comfortable environment with clear communication, an educated assessment, and soft tissue therapy tailored to the individual.

In her free time, Kristen loves spending time outdoors hiking, camping, biking and generally anything active.  She also enjoys playing the piano and guitar, watching movies, and spending time with her family.
